Good article, Lau, and it should be read by everyone. Interesting that Peter Thiel just moved to South America to escape the California taxes; but also said that AI is not going well in its harnessing in the states. Wonder what he has planned.???!!!. They simply cannot leave people alone in their quest for power. While AI is going to go well in some aspects of business; trying to work with it's problems is hard. No sense fighting the Data Centers. People just do not have that kind of money for the courts.
Thank you, Lauran. I find the Thiel move to Argentina very interesting… the same people building the surveillance infrastructure in one country are quietly relocating to greener pastures in another. Just to think you could casually run into the guy on the street when visiting friends. I also just realized I forgot to do a note about it:).
Yes I initially thought similarly when I saw that headline. But upon further reflection, I think that for someone of his level of power and access to allow such widespread public coverage of his personal life, it is much more likely to be some sort of misdirection than just straight reporting of true facts.
I’m just waiting for the day when the Department of Human Stupidity (DHS) decides to issue an arrest warrant for both Sen Bernie Sanders and Rep Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. Then we’ll know that they’ve really gone bonkers.
Thanks for sharing, Liz. It's an intriguing piece (as a lot of stuff from the Black Swan Files), though I think the data center obsolescence case applies more to traditional enterprise computing than to the AI training infrastructure that's driving the current buildout.
This is a good article covering serious issues. Although I don’t see any effective way to fundmentally change the course, “eyes wide open” is always necessary if there’s to be any chance of finding one.
Wow. Was not expecting that but not surprised. Thanks for telling me. CI is a great publication and I will stay with it. However I will also stay with you. You are too damn smart to abandon. You help me to connect the dots. You can count on me to support you. Reveal your plans when appropriate. God speed.
I had heard recently Bill Gates sold all his MS stock! I also remember him saying in interviews he made 20x more from vaccine investments which I'm not surprised.
I've heard this one a few times. People tend to confuse Bill Gates with the Gates Foundation. The foundation recently sold its Microsoft stake, yes, but Gates still owns roughly 100 million shares personally. That stash is worth north of $50 billion at current prices.

Good point… at that level, nothing leaks without a reason. Makes you think either way though.

Thanks for writing this! Some are saying data centers will soon be obsolete: https://substack.com/redirect/c61756ac-d5bb-43ad-9130-a4514d236507?j=eyJ1IjoiNzZxNTgifQ.RSNDQQsomXuvh-Abh5dStikLsA2fTHhDFXbrmQ8x8h8

Great Article and well laid out points one must undertake in assessing the impact on common good and common people. Keep up the good work
Thank you, Baku.

Appreciate that, Jay. ‘Eyes wide open’ is pretty much my mantra at this point.
Lau!! You have been on fire as of late! Great posts. Must send you on vacation more often. Hope to see you on the call tomorrow.
Hey Dart - appreciate that! You're being too kind.
On the call: I've actually moved on from CI, so no more calls for me. Hope it was a good one though.

BTW I would like to be an inaugural PAID subscriber.
I sincerely hope AI is way overhyped and the investment bubble explodes soon.
