Your article today about losing victorious conflicts through exhaustion and financial ruin reminds me of a quote by Voltaire about the outcome of legal battles: “I was never ruined but twice: once when I lost a lawsuit and once when I won one.”

Excellent, dr. b. Perfect analogy.

Given that the only moral forms of foreign policy is a combination of isolationism, neutrality, and free trade, I often wonder where the world would be today had Woodrow Wilson not taken the US "Over There". The dying Empires struggle would have eventually stagnated perhaps, leaving Germany without the Treaty of Versailles, no WW2 in Europe, no Warsaw pact, etc. The US today is easily defended without 800 overseas targets, oops, I mean bases, and 13 Carrier groups to project power successfully against goat herders but not modern inexpensive weaponry. Every Administration since Eisenhauer has succumbed to the military industrial complex and libertarian spawned isolationism is pretty much off the radar of modern culture but as a thought exercise and principle it is worth preserving. Unfortunately in today's ubiquitous variously fascist ruled nations and their entanglements, we time travelers wait for the next "War in the Health of the State" meme.

Nobody wins except them because we manifest their vision. We feed it and pay so much attention to what comes out of the talking parasites mouth. President Franklin D. Roosevelt, Prime Minister Winston Churchill, and General Secretary Joseph Stalin all agreee at the Yalta Conference that Stallin would take the fall. All the world is paying attention to the wrong things. Their theatre...! WTF up people.. And manifest what we want, without violence and war. All is choreographed and presented as if happening in real time.... Stop falling for the Truman show and take your oculars off.... Blessings

Good article about the Thucydides trap

But it was Athens, which was the existing power and part of the Challenger

Thanks. But no, Athens was the rising power. Sparta was the established power. For some reason, people get that wrong. Here’s Thucydides: “It was the rise of Athens, and the fear that this inspired in Sparta, that made war inevitable.”
