Keep us posted. More trouble, no doubt, ahead. When to duck? How to shuffle? This is a no fun dance. But dance we must. Thanks.

From a selfish USA perspective, we should pay attention to Japan because it is a mirror for us in 20 years. Boomers fully extracting wealth from a shrinking generation of workers, debt exploding upwards and various monetary tricks to paper over the fiscal prolificacy.

The Japanese custom of nemawashi is strong, as is the culture of doing what the government tells you, so Japanese will save and tighten their belts if told to. Yet nothing can change the math. Their reserves are in large part a debasing fiat currency. They are dependent on outsiders for food and energy. Nothing has been going in their favor since 1990. The self-inflicted wounds of debt and shutting down their nuclear program for 12 years is bearing fruit.

A fabulous culture and society is destroying itself because it won't make hard choices now rather than have them forced on them in some unknown future. But revolutionary change is coming. Math never lies.

p.s. little nit - Japan is not the oldest country on earth. That distinction belongs to San Marino, a beautiful and majestically run republic near the Adriatic coast established in 301 AD. It is remarkable how different it is from surrounding Italy. No border, no dysfunctional society, no army, and a debt/GDP ratio under 60%. Policies matter.

Astute, as always. Japan has a sterling reputation in the fish world. In your opinion, why haven’t they become the world leader in fish sales/exporting? Asking for a friend….🤓

from which US market sectors will the Japanese investors most likely pull their investments and therefore which sectors are now most likely to be adversely affected?

Interesting - the loss of the carry trade and the repatriation of Japanese capital - do we hear a loud sucking sound? Also the playbook I hear the US may need to deploy as foreigners continue to reduce the volume of US treasuries purchased. But in the US the insurance companies are said to be exposed to bad private equity ‘investments’. Stablecoins? Only so many carpets to sweep under!

Tis said too that the deployment of private enterprise to manage Federal financial problems protects the powers that be from FOIA scrutiny. As we are increasingly surveilled (KYC and KYT), the ruling class’s iron curtain is being built.

only part way in.

does this mean that AmCitz could offer to buy Japanese holdings of USA bonds, for American cash NOW?

I'd love to, (do you know when you buy a Katana the package arrives with a box of care for your sword, tools & instructions?) hold an American stock with Japanese care package.

°Cherishº I have no money, only assets, so it doesn't really apply to me...yet, I could make it matter.

°Cherishº is the new love, be well.
